What do you need sorted?
Pick the closest description. Most people describe the problem rather than the solution — that is exactly the right way round.
You cannot get into a property or vehicle
Being shut out of your own home, shop or car is stressful, and it is one of the most common reasons people call a locksmith. Tell us where you are, what type of door or vehicle is involved and whether the key is missing, broken or simply inside.
- Front door, back door, garage, gate or vehicle access
- Key lost, key snapped, key locked inside or lock not releasing
- We talk through the situation before any work is agreed

04Inside the job
What happens next?
Five steps, in order, every time. We do not publish response times or fixed completion times, because they would depend entirely on your location and the job in front of us.

08Local identity
Based in Bayswater North.
Bayswater North sits in Melbourne’s outer east, north of Bayswater and west of the Dandenong foothills, with Canterbury Road running through as its main east–west spine. Bayswater North Locksmith Service is based here, at 296 Canterbury Rd, and this suburb is the centre of where we work.
Being genuinely local changes the nature of the work. It means recognising the housing stock, knowing which streets are residential and which run into light industrial and retail frontage, and understanding that a Canterbury Road business and a quiet residential street a few blocks north have very different locksmith needs.
What we see locally
- 01Established brick homes here frequently still carry their original entry hardware, which is often mechanically sound but well past the point where the cylinder operates smoothly.
- 02Newer townhouse and unit developments typically use more contemporary hardware, and the common questions there are about consolidating keys and securing secondary access points such as garages and courtyard gates.
- 03Rental turnover across the suburb makes rekeying a routine request — the number of keys previously issued for a property is rarely something a new occupant can establish with certainty.
- 04Commercial frontage along and around Canterbury Road sees much heavier daily door use than residential premises, which is why commercial hardware here tends to show mechanical wear sooner.
- 05Properties with side or rear access, carports and gated yards often have more access points than the occupants have consciously counted — reviewing them as a set is usually more useful than looking at the front door alone.

Primary service area
Bayswater North 3153
Bayswater North is predominantly residential, with a large stock of established post-war and later brick homes on generous blocks, along with newer townhouse and unit developments infilling older sites. Alongside that sits a working commercial and light industrial presence around Canterbury Road and the surrounding arterial network, including retail frontage, service businesses and warehouse-style premises.

10The access journey
From problem to access.
Every job follows the same line. Select a stage to see what it actually involves.
Problem
A key snaps, a lock seizes, keys go missing, or a door simply refuses to open. The starting point is almost always unplanned.
11See the security
Lock anatomy.
A simplified cross-section of a modern door lock. Select a component to see what it does. This is general information to help you describe a problem accurately — it is not a diagnosis of your lock, and it is not a guide to bypassing one.
02 — Cylinder
The cylinder is the part the key enters. It translates the correct key into rotation. Rekeying changes the internal arrangement of the cylinder so previous keys no longer operate it, without replacing the whole lock.
12Lock problem library
Common lock problems.
General guidance on what may be happening and when professional help is usually appropriate. These are possibilities, not conclusions — a lock has to be inspected before anyone can be certain.
Selected problem
Key won't turn
Possible causes include
- The key may be worn, or be a copy taken from another copy
- Debris or dried lubricant may be restricting the cylinder
- The door may have shifted so the bolt is binding against the strike
When professional help may be appropriate
If the key will not turn with normal, gentle pressure, stop. Forcing a key is the most common way a key ends up snapped inside a cylinder, which makes the job considerably larger.

13Security without the sales pitch
Good security starts with good information.
- 01Recommend the appropriate solution
- The recommendation follows the inspection. If a lock can be repaired or rekeyed rather than replaced, that is what we will tell you.
- 02Explain what needs to be done
- You should be able to repeat back what the problem is and what the work involves. If you cannot, we have not explained it well enough.
- 03Avoid unnecessary work
- Additional hardware that does not address an actual weakness is expense without benefit. We would rather point out the one thing worth doing.
- 04Respect the property
- Doors, frames, paintwork and vehicle trim are treated with care. The finished job should look considered, not improvised.
- 05Communicate clearly
- Plain language, no jargon for its own sake, and a straight answer when something falls outside what we can assist with.
- 06Provide practical options
- Where there is more than one reasonable approach, you get to hear the trade-offs and make the decision yourself.
